Terzo quartetto d'archi

A fundamental work in the 20th-century Italian chamber repertoire, the “Casa al Dono” Quartet op. 203 is a passionate, nostalgic, and affectionate tribute to the memory of the great Renaissance art historian Bernard Berenson, a friend of Castelnuovo-Tedesco. It also evokes the places around Berenson’s residence in Vallombrosa, where the composer spontaneously sketched, on letter paper, the thematic ideas that he would later develop in Beverly Hills.
