The Gallipoli Manuscript 1A

This edition presents a unique collection of partimento realizations, exercises in thoroughbass notation probably deriving from the Neapolitan conservatories, from around the 1750s. The manuscript, today preserved in the Biblioteca Communale in the village of Gallipoli, contains forty-six realizations of partimenti by Francesco Durante (1684-1755). This first volume includes thirty realizations of exercises that Durante composed over the ascending bass motions. The realizations that are presented in this first volume, correspond with Durante’s collection Studj per cembalo con partimenti diversi.
