Matteo Carcassi (Florence 1792 – Paris 1853) is considered one of the most representative Italian guitarists-composers of the nineteenth century. His compositions were printed by all the main publishers ofthe time and the 25 Etudes Mélodiques Progressives Op. 60 – his best known and most admired work – are fundamental to the formation of the student of the guitar, thanks to the variety and distinctiveness of their technical and instrumental structure, and to their fluent melodic line, supported by a clear harmonic and stylistic framework.
