Synchronicity for violin and viola by Joseph Davies.
Programme Notes
Synchronicity is a term coined by Carl Jung in the 1950s to describe the phenomenon of events which occur together in time and appear significantly related despite having no discernible causal connection. Jung held that such apparent coincidences are often the trigger to major events and changes in one's life and that their importance should therefore not be overlooked. This short duo, written for the wedding of close friends, enacts a gradual symbolic coming-together of the two instruments which arrive at their lively synchronous moment half way through before returning to the more meditative mood of the opening.
